The 2022 reissue of the seventh & final studio album from New York metal legends Type O Negative. When Dead Again was released in 2007, it became the band's highest-charting album, owing to its prominent use of live studio drums instead of a drum machine (unlike their prior three albums, which heard TON drummer Johnny Kelly pre-program the drums). Perhaps it's for this reason, though not for this reason alone, that Dead Again is considered a return to form: its sensorial command of fatal-romantic atmosphere and green-tinged gothics play out in seemingly endless breakdowns, denouements, and buildups; it's the drumless pauses in particular at which Peter Steele and co. are heard at their best. Fittingly, it's now reissued on alabaster "ghostly green" vinyl, lending due justice to the ectoplasmic mood maintained throughout the album, and not least by its front-cover appropriation of the visage of history's most infamous dark flatterer and holy opportunist, Rasputin.
