Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross reunite with Luca Guadagnino for their soundtrack to Queer — an atmospheric, slow-burn work that leans into psychic texture rather than narrative signposting. The music and overall concept draw directly from William S. Burroughs — including the end-credits song ‘Vaster Than Empires’, performed by Caetano Veloso and Trent Reznor and inspired by Burroughs’ final diary entry.
The physical package assembles material from the film’s world — collage elements echo Burroughs’ cut-up technique, on-set photography including Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, handwritten fragments, and other pieces tied to the film’s emotional weather. It mirrors what the music is doing: slicing impression from impression until it becomes something ambiguous, lingering, and half-lit.
Rather than a traditional score, Queer works more like a drifting interior monologue — motifs surface, smear, and dissipate — giving the release an under-the-skin presence that suits its shapeshifting source.
